Best Places To Stay Near Forbidden City, Beijing (2026)

I’ve had many friends ask me about the best places to stay near Forbidden City.

FYI, I am Chinese and a transport expert. I know the area really well.

To help more people out, here’s my list of hotels.

There’s definitely something for everyone.

Hope you enjoy your trip to the Forbidden City!

MY PERSONAL TOP RECOMMENDATION

Location: this hotel is 3km south east of Forbidden City, taking around 10 minutes by taxi.

It’s next to Qianmen Pedestrian Street, which has over 100 restaurants to choose from.

Only a 15 minute walk to Temple of Heaven too!

Why: This 5 star hotel has my favourite hotel rooms in China. They are fantastic value for the size.

Best hotel room I’ve stayed in! Service is amazing too.

SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF FORBIDDEN CITY

Location: One of the closest hotels to Forbidden City. It’s about 20 minute walk so you won’t have to call a cab!

Also right in the heart of Wangfujing, Beijing’s main pedestrian street where there are hundreds of restaurants and shops!

Why: A top-end option. What I love about it is the open air balcony. Absolutely breathtaking views of the Forbidden City.

The interiors are amazing too!

TRADITIONAL CHINESE DECOR

Location: Just outside the eastern wall of the Forbidden City. A 20 minute walk.

It’s also very close to Wangfujing, Beijing’s main pedestrian street.

Why: I really liked the style of this hotel. It’s a courtyard hotel with traditional Chinese architecture.

Quiet area, away from the main road.
