Many people come to China mostly for its historic landmarks and futuristic skylines. In fact, China has the one of the most diverse and spectacular range of landscapes in the world.
Let’s take a moment to think about it. China has mountains, karsts, plateaus, deserts, grasslands, rainforests, islands, oceans, lakes, waterfalls, AND MORE. If you’re a nature fanatic, then visiting China’s vast regions is an absolute must!
If you’re a newcomer, you may find it difficult to work out which attractions are worth visiting. For that reason, I have picked 20 of the most breathtaking scenic areas in China that are very highly rated by locals and has the best chance of making your eyes pop with wonder.
This list contains a lot of mountain destinations since China has one of the most mountains in the world by absolute volume.
I recommend you hire a local guide, unless you are a really experienced explorer and know how to take all of the sensible precautions and preparations needed to stay safe. Mountains can be super dangerous. In any case, I strongly recommend you do not visit mountains alone!

6. Daocheng Yading, Sichuan 稻城亚丁 | incredible alpine landscapes, meadows, forests at 3,000 to 6,000m. Known as the Last Shangri-La.
